This colored pencil painting was shown in the show, “She” at the Oliver Art Center in early spring, 2025. About a week before the painting needed to be at the OAC to be hung, I was painting the last details. All I needed to do was varnish it. As I brushed the varnish on I saw that the brush was picking up some pigment. I had to coat the entire piece to give it an even surface but by the time I was done the painting was a mere ghost of itself. Things like this happen . . . .
So, I took a deep breath and said, “I can fix this. I can do this.” After the varnish had thoroughly dried I went back over the entire painting with more color. It must have turned out alright because it sold from the show. Being an artist takes a lot of courage, hope and faith.
